HNB FINANCE installs sustainable composting system at Colombo South Teaching Hospital

Premier Sri Lankan financial services firm HNB FINANCE furthered its efforts as a responsible corporate citizen by recently introducing a sustainable composting system to the Colombo South Teaching Hospital in Kalubowila.

This environmentally friendly solution innovatively addresses waste management concerns by reducing quantities of refuse, thereby decreasing environmental pollution, and recycling nutrients to enhance long-term soil fertility.

By demonstrating the benefits of organic waste conversion solutions, the project also actively furthers the country’s overarching strategy of promoting clean and sustainable waste management.

HNB FINANCE Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Chaminda Prabhath and Colombo South Teaching Hospital Director Dr. Asela Gunawardana attended the ceremony marking the formal conclusion of the project.

“Improper waste management can contribute to a host of environmental problems, from ground and surface water contamination to an increased risk of flooding due to blocked drainage outlets. After the hospital informed us of its need for a sustainable means of disposing of its organic waste, we immediately set about meeting this request through an effective garbage burial system. This will provide the added benefit of reducing the quantity of refuse sent to the nearest landfill,” said HNB FINANCE Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Chaminda Prabhath.

This latest charitable initiative comes in the wake of HNB FINANCE being named the Best CSR Finance Company in Sri Lanka by the globally reputed International Business Magazine.

This year, HNB FINANCE’s CSR work has targeted the key areas of education, the environment, entrepreneurship and health. This has seen it conduct national health and nutrition drives, renovate rural schools, implement water purification systems in areas lacking this crucial infrastructure, initiate blood donation programmes, plant trees, stage education seminars and organise art workshops to name but a few of its impactful projects.

Established in 2000, HNB FINANCE Limited is licensed as a registered Finance Company by the Monetary Board of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka. Maintaining an extensive island-wide presence across 48 branches and 21 service centres, HNB FINANCE has over the recent past expanded into new fields of business and now offers Small and Medium Enterprise (SME) loans in addition to savings, gold loans, education loans, home loans, personal loans, fixed deposit facilities and leasing products.
